Back up your data before disasters

Most important thing in working on computer
is keeping your valuable data far from any problems. You should
make a hard copy of your documents, pictures or any other
work, which sometime might not be easy to restore if the worst
happens.
Backing up your valuable data may save
you worries of recovering it from failed hard disk or computer.
You need just up and running operating system to start working
on your files as usual. There are a few methods of backing
up your files. You may easily do it manually by saving your
documents or any other files into removal storage or external
devices like hard disks, zips, CD or DVD writers, or online
system back ups.
You can use special software which will
help you to back up entire disk or stick to back up feature
supplied with your operating system, which can be find in
System Tools( click Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools).
If you are running Windows 95 or 98 you
might not find the back up option it is not installed on your
system yet. Just pop in your operating system on CD-rom and
click on Start-Settings-Control
Panel-Add/Remove Programs-Windows Setup. Tick the System
Tools and in Details tick Backup.
Confirm your choice by clicking Enter and wait for the system
to install it.
This feature helps you to choose what to
backup and where you would like to store your data.
Keeping antivirus and firewall up
to date
Viruses, worms and trojan horses are created
almost every day infecting millions computers in the world.
Antivirus and Firewall are necessary and very important applications
on our systems nowadays.
That is why we should keep them up to date with the newest
virus and trojans definitions.
They will not serve their purpose without updates.
You may check your antivirus/firewall software help how to
keep them up to date.
Looking for system updates online
Keeping your system up to date can prevent
you from having valuable system, opened to attacks from outside
world. Also it can provide you with the latest drivers for
your components, to make them running smoothly without any
problems, or add new features like a new Media Player to improve
your multimedia experience. Go to Start-Windows Updates, go
online and scan your computer for the latest patches.
How to deal with suspicious email
attachments
Every attachment you should treat with
suspicion. Always make sure it comes from known source.
Never open any attachments with double extensions like example.xls.pif.
If you receive any executable files, make sure you know the
sender and confirm with them if they sent the file.
Most of viruses and worms should be picked up by antivirus
software if it has got updated data base but you should pay
attention to anything you receive nowadays.
